Talk @ Westwood Sec

Mr Ong, Myself, Genecia, Jiaxi... After work!

We all received a token of appreciation after our "work"... Make a guess what's inside!

I was very privileged to be invited by our (URTO) grooming coach, Genecia Luo, to do a talk for Westwood Secondary School last Wednesday. I felt honoured that she think I'm good enough and willing to take the risks to have me representing her company (InQueenz). Thanks babe!

I always loved Fosters, Holland Village to catch up and have tea with friends. They have a really good deal for tea set. Go try sometime!

So while getting all nervous & excited days before the actual talk, we met up the day before to discuss about the speech I'm supposed to share. I'd expected to do grooming & etiquette session with the kids. Like how to walk, behave in public, dress up but it wasn't what i had in mind. Basically the talk is about "Showing Your Charm" to the graduating classes (sec. 4 & 5s). The main motive is to empower the "fresh from oven" kids to better package/show case themselves after secondary school. Genecia decided to leave the guys to me while she's doing the exact same talk to the girls. Oh well, I was pretty apprehensive at the start & I was thinking should i exchange the class with her. Nevertheless, I believed she has her reasons for doing so, so just do it, lah! Haha.

During the talk, it was very exciting cos' i've never used my public speaking skills other than talking crap infront of national TV. Haha! The kids are kids, pretty active & "bored" soon after. The 1st 15min, they took turns to walk in & out of the classroom, on pretense to go washroom. Judging from their reaction, i knew I didn't managed to get their attention & have them engaging in the topic. I can tell that they are not really keen on the subject that i was trying to convey. So, I sped up my pace on the slides & shortened sharing of my life experiences & engage them in little games & scenario that they can relate/experience more. Response was okay. I had fun!

It was actually nerve-breaking standing infront of the class giving the talk cos' i had quite a number of "professional teachers" all around me. I forgot how I usually ended up with talks during secondary school days & didn't realised that talks with students must be prepared with lots of activities, videos, games etc. Thank God I managed to pull through & the feedback from the organiser was good. Seriously, I think Mr Ong was just being nice & motivative cos' i'm new. On top of that, I must thank the students for being nice to me & responded to the on-the-spot games. Though I'm almost 6 years their senior, sabotaging games never fails!

Their "guest speakers" , Jiaxi ,was supposed to come to my class to share a little (10min) of his experiences, but he didn't make it before i end the session cos' he's with Genecia at another room. Mr Yuan couldn't get up, so he wasn't at the school. It's okay though, just as I thought i needed someone with me to do the whole talk, I eventually did it on my own. Note! All alone with 10,000 strangers. Haha!

Power rangers are moving on to Lot 1 for lunch. I was super hungry & thirsty by then! West side is so alien to me, I'm so afraid to get lost on the roads. So the 2 of them lead me around. 1st time to Lot 1, so "sua-ku" right?

OMG, i had to decide from the long list. I wanted to kill myself... All the dishes look appetizing & attractive, lah! How?! I would like to have baked rice, I like noodle soup, I must have HK milk tea, my stomach can fit dim sum too... ... LOL...

So, I chose to go with the flow, I'll have whatever they are eating. Hee! The 3 of us spent the next 2-3hours catching & chit-chatting. Before I knew it, it was almost 5pm... time to move on & meet up with my friend for chicken rice.
Btw, we thought the "gift" was a pen, but it turned out to be a watch with Weswood Sec initials on it. And it's a cute one! I hate wearing shirts & formal skirts. It's just so uncomfortable & solemn. PIE exit Jalan Bahar is another killer. I stay at YCK okay! I'm not grumbling, just talking rubbish. Heehee... I just hoped whatver I've done that day will be beneficial to the students. Kids, study hard alright!?
Ironically, now i'm staying over at the west side. LOL. Not really lah, Holland V. is still pretty central to me... Anyways, Have a great weekends!
Loves,
Christalle
